SOLC Gender Affirming Vocal Workshop Fly

This event hosted by Singing Out Las Cruces in collaboration with NMSU's LGBT+ Programs and the Theatre Department was free to the public and the student population of NMSU. Led by our Artistic Director, Irene Brink, an experienced vocal coach and with the assistance of members of our choir that identify as trans, non-binary, genderqueer, and genderfluid this interactive workshop was designed for transgender, nonbinary, genderfluid, and gender expansive individuals who wanted to explore and develop a voice that aligns with their identity, while easing the difficulties that come along with vocal changes on HRT. Through vocal exercises, an informative presentation about vocal anatomy and the effects of Estrogen and Testosterone HRT on the voice, and a lively but heartfelt Q&A and discussion, attendees had the opportunity to explore and share at all levels of their experience. Singing Out is so grateful to have had the chance to serve the community with this workshop and we look forward to finding more ways like this to give back.

Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that Las Cruces is located on the ancestral and unceded lands of the Piro, Manso, and Tiwa peoples, who have lived in the Río Grande Valley for generations. We also recognize the enduring presence and contributions of the Mescalero Apache, Chiricahua Apache, and Pueblo peoples, as well as the Tigua (Ysleta del Sur Pueblo) and other indigenous communities who have called this region home. We honor their connection to this land, their history, their cultures, and traditions, and we commit to ongoing learning, relationship building, and support for Indigenous sovereignty and justice.
